Edward Percy Moran was a painter and an etcher. His uncle, Thomas Moran, was nationally known for his western landscapes. His father, Edward Moran, was also a well known painter who provided early art training for his talented son. Edward Percy Moran continued his studies at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and at the National Academy of Design in New York followed by four years of training in London and Paris. Moran established his reputation as a painter of genre scenes (scenes of everyday life). His favorite subjects were rural scenes with children. "Girl Feeding Birds" is a genre scene that Moran painted in a style influenced by American Impressionism focusing on the changing effects of light and color.
